Water!

Water is probably the most important thing that we consume, but it has to be GOOD WATER!

If we drink toxic water (fluoride, drugs, etc.) then we are probably doing more harm than good.  When I was a kid, we didn’t even think about water, when we were thirsty we drank tap water (bottled water was not invented yet).

The problem is that many of the municipal water supplies in the US are toxic, however, the “safe” standards are met, so nothing is done about it.

The problem is that modern science has proven that these levels pose countless health risks.

There are 160 contaminants that are unregulated, and therefore have  NO LEGAL LIMITS! Frighteningly the EPA  has refused to add any new contaminants to their listing of regulated tap water pollutants in over two decades!  Not doing their job!

My home uses a well with a whole house filtration system, and we drink distilled.  Distilled is great because it helps better flushing toxins out of the body, and it makes my coffee taste better! 🙂  This seems to be good, so we’ll keep it up.  I would recommend using some type of quality filter for your home as well.  We use an Aquasana whole house filter.

If you are interested in checking the quality of your municipal water, go to Environment Working Group https://www.ewg.org/tapwater/.  They have a fairly good list of areas with the found contaminants and filter suggestions.

Kuerig – Great way of making coffee?

Keurig is very convenient, but is it a healthy way of making your coffee?  Not so much!

  • How fresh is the coffee in a K Cup?
  • What toxins am I exposing myself to as the hot water forces the coffee through the little holes poked in the plastic cup?
  • What is that lid made of that is poked at the top to allow the water to enter the cup?
  • What chemicals are used in the flavored coffee selections?
  • Is there a filter inside the plastic cup? What is it made of and how is it secured inside the plastic cup?

Mold and mildew is a big problem!  Some people have this issue and are affected by it, some not so much.  The problem is that the internal tank and tubes never get drained out and dried!  Dark, warm. moist, the perfect breeding ground for mold!

Then there is the problem of the quality of the coffee.  Is it fresh?  What toxins am I exposed to from the machine itself?  What are the coffees flavored with?

If you consider all the toxin exposure, and the freshness of the coffee, doing “your own” makes a lot of sense!

Personally I just use organic green coffee beans, roast and grind myself, and use an Aeropress coffee brewer to make it.  Best coffee ever!

Third Hand Smoke!

Third Hand Smoke is very stealthy (except for the stink), and it can affect your brain and liver function over time! One  month!

If exposure persists for longer, it will exacerbate the issue, causing cellular damage and a host of diseases.  Mainly due to the liver being our body’s filter!

THS has also been shown to be highly resilient, remaining on surfaces for years. They are even resistant to the strongest cleansing agents. Over time, they can react to ambient air and turn into carcinogenic chemicals. Children are even more vulnerable than adults to THS.

The negative effects of smoking are well known, but this new information takes the risk to a new level. Share this information with smokers and non-smokers alike.

smoking-pigeonAll of us know by now, or at least I hope so, that the smoking habit is a real killer!

I remember as  kid my parents telling me never to start smoking!  But my father did (and he eventually passed from emphysema).

But it’s hard for someone to actually believe that smoking is bad, when you feel fine, and others smokers that you know also feel fine!

This dichotomy between one’s own experiences and what one is being told, makes it a tough sell!

smokingHowever nowadays the detailed information available to us makes it even harder!  The evidence is overwhelming!  Below I offer a summary of what is now known.  If  a smoker is aware of these FACTS and doesn’t immediately seek help to quit, they are probably deserving of the inevitable consequences!

  • Tobacco smoke contains over 4,000 chemicals!  At least 50 of these are KNOWN CARCINOGENS (cause cancer in humans) and many are just classified as poisonous!
  • Tobacco kills up to HALF of its regular users!
  • Tobacco caused 100 MILLION deaths in the 20th century!
  • Cigarettes are on of the few products, which can be sold legally, which can harm or kill you over time, if used as intended!
  • Scientists claim that the average smoker will lose 14 YEARS of their life due to smoking!
  • Nicotine reaches the brain within 10 seconds after smoke is inhaled, and has been found in every part of the body  as well as breast milk!
  • Sugar approximates to roughly 20% of a cigarette, and many diabetics are unaware of this secret sugar intake.  Also the effects on the body of inhaling burning sugar is unknown!
  • “Lite” cigarettes are produced by infusing tobacco with CO2 and superheating it until the tobacco “puffs up” like expanding foam.  the expanded tobacco then fills the same paper tube as a “regular” tobacco!  
  • On average, smokers draw on “lite” and menthol cigarettes harder than regular ones, causing the same levels of tar and nicotine to be consumed!
  • The manufacturer uses several active ingredients, and special methods of production to ensure that the nicotine levels in a cigarette is many time more potent than that of a tobacco plant!
  • Cigarettes cost a lot of money, $5 to $14 (in New York)!  That’s a lot of cash (more than $5000 for NY) over a year, even if you only smoke one pack per day!

We have many methods available today, to help a person quit, such as:

  • Gradual reduction
  • Nicotine replacement therapy
  • Patches
  • Gum
  • Nasal sprays
  • Inhalers
  • Hypnosis
  • Acupuncture
  • PEMF therapy
  • Low level laser therapy

These methods have varying degrees of cost, time, and success!  And, most important of all, the person MUST want to quit! If someone really enjoys smoking, and they don’t have any medical symptoms (yet), they will not stop, no matter what method they use!

Tobacco is a nasty addiction that ONLY affects your health and life in a negative way.  Think of what you could do with all that extra cash you will have on hand after you stop!

With the huge downsides of the smoking habit, which include poor health, complaints from friends and spouse, dealing with the many “Non Smoking” areas being enforced now, and the cost, it would behoove any current smoker to find a quitting option that will work for them!

TOXIC!

ToxicEver wonder why so may people are sick and dying?  The older I get, the more I hear of people succumbing to chronic diseases and some dying.  I know of a few friends that have been affected as well!

Well I wonder this on a day to day basis, as I am a holistic practitioner, working with a Naturopathic Doctor, in a Holistic Wellness center.  We see people suffering from a vast range of problems, that have “accumulated” over many decades of life.  Just about all these issues can be attributed to toxins and a lack of proper nutrition.

There seems to be a common thread in just about ALL these people – chronic toxic exposure – coupled with the inability of their own bodies to eliminate these toxins.

And why can’t their bodies eliminate?  Well, they haven’t been giving the body what it need to perform at the best level! Clean nutritious food, air, water, and environment!

Unfortunately it’s getting harder and harder to ingest a “CLEAN, NUTRITIOUS” source of food, drink from a “CLEAN, NON CONTAMINATED” source of water, and breath real “FRESH AIR”.

The other problem is our exposure to toxins in our immediate environment.  Where we work, how we clean our houses, and or exposure to EMFs!

If we don’t go the extra mile to obtain good sources of food, water, and air, and mitigate our exposure to chemicals, we will suffer!

And it goes even further to include STRESS!  FYI there are 3 basic types of stress PHYSICAL, CHEMICAL, and EMOTIONAL!  Your body does not know or care about which stress it is – it reacts the same.  So you must also address the emotional issues.

So to conclude, the answer to the opening question is now very clear!  We can all help eliminate chronic disease, and it’s consequences, by making simple changes, Eat organic foods (or grow your own), drink only distilled water (it’s the best to help detox the body), and check your environment – make the needed changes to mitigate your exposure!
