With the current Covid-19 situation, I would like to clear up some misinformation that we’ve been living with since the time of Pasteur! Most of us are unaware that the “germ theory” popularized by Louis Pasteur is a false assumption. He was going head-to-head with another scientist of his time, Antoine Bechamp.

Bechamp argued that it was the “terrain” of the body and not the “germ”. Depending on the terrain of the body, various bacteria and viruses can exist.

The history of this is very interesting, and can be read in a 350 page book entitled “Bechamp or Pasteur, A lost chapter in the history of biology” published in 1923 by Ethel Douglas Hume. On his deathbed Pasteur said “THE PATHOGEN IS NOTHING; THE TERRAIN IS EVERYTHING.”

It is my personal belief that bacteria and viruses are the “garbagemen” of our bodies, whose job it is to help remove bad stuff (toxins, etc.) from our bodies! They are pleomorph’s and change to various forms, to tackle the current needs of our bodies.

As the microbiome mostly in our gut, assists with our health, there is also a virome (made up of viruses) with the same task!

We all have bacteria and viruses in our bodies at all times! So if you are ‘testing” for a particular virus, chances are good that you will find it.

So if you want to stay healthy, keep your terrain in top shape, eat right (organic), occasional fasting, exercise, and detox yourself from toxic substances and relationships!

These “pathogens” are here to help! They exist to help us stay healthy!

But, like everything, you must checkout the sources of the remedy!  It could be contaminated (pesticides etc.) and work against what you are trying to do!

Health Care in the (not too distant) Future!

Over the past few decades, “healthcare” in the USA has gone through some serious changes!  Back in the ’80s and ’90s it was not unusual to have a job where the employer paid for your health insurance, and it didn’t cost you a dime!  And the coverage was really good.

Today – not so much!  The policies that are available to you are VERY expensive and they don’t cover many “procedures”.  So you wind up paying much more for much less! 

So what to do?

Reform your health care!

Well what are your options?  Well from a guys point of view, a guy that really likes to do things for himself, without paying someone else, I say “I can do it”!

That’s exactly what I did!  My wife and I, years ago, decided to educate ourselves on the “ins and outs ” of maintaining our good health!  She became a board certified naturopathic doctor, and I received my bachelors in holistic health. We have both attended training on a wide variety of “alternative” therapies.  We then parlayed that education into opening a Holistic Wellness Center, first in NJ, and now in NC.

There are MANY alternatives to regular MDs and pharmaceuticals.  These include herbals, homeopathics, essential oils, and various modalities such as PEMF machines, induction lasers, craniosacral therapy, thermography and colorpuncture.  All of which (and more) we currently utilize in our practice.

However if I have broken bones or other trauma, get me to the emergency room!

I’m not saying that each of you should follow suit, but the information that we learned has become invaluable to helping us keep our health, and helping others do the same!

What I am saying is that you should learn about 1 or 2 of these, probably herbal medicine and/or essential oils, and they will go a long way to you getting out of the “system” and start taking responsibility for your own health, and the health of your family!

This will become an invaluable tool to you and those around you when the SHTF sometime in the future and standard healthcare may become unavailable to you and yours!

Think about it – you being able to help yourself and others maintain their health, without MDs and big pharma!  What a concept!

smoking-pigeonAll of us know by now, or at least I hope so, that the smoking habit is a real killer!

I remember as  kid my parents telling me never to start smoking!  But my father did (and he eventually passed from emphysema).

But it’s hard for someone to actually believe that smoking is bad, when you feel fine, and others smokers that you know also feel fine!

This dichotomy between one’s own experiences and what one is being told, makes it a tough sell!

smokingHowever nowadays the detailed information available to us makes it even harder!  The evidence is overwhelming!  Below I offer a summary of what is now known.  If  a smoker is aware of these FACTS and doesn’t immediately seek help to quit, they are probably deserving of the inevitable consequences!

  • Tobacco smoke contains over 4,000 chemicals!  At least 50 of these are KNOWN CARCINOGENS (cause cancer in humans) and many are just classified as poisonous!
  • Tobacco kills up to HALF of its regular users!
  • Tobacco caused 100 MILLION deaths in the 20th century!
  • Cigarettes are on of the few products, which can be sold legally, which can harm or kill you over time, if used as intended!
  • Scientists claim that the average smoker will lose 14 YEARS of their life due to smoking!
  • Nicotine reaches the brain within 10 seconds after smoke is inhaled, and has been found in every part of the body  as well as breast milk!
  • Sugar approximates to roughly 20% of a cigarette, and many diabetics are unaware of this secret sugar intake.  Also the effects on the body of inhaling burning sugar is unknown!
  • “Lite” cigarettes are produced by infusing tobacco with CO2 and superheating it until the tobacco “puffs up” like expanding foam.  the expanded tobacco then fills the same paper tube as a “regular” tobacco!  
  • On average, smokers draw on “lite” and menthol cigarettes harder than regular ones, causing the same levels of tar and nicotine to be consumed!
  • The manufacturer uses several active ingredients, and special methods of production to ensure that the nicotine levels in a cigarette is many time more potent than that of a tobacco plant!
  • Cigarettes cost a lot of money, $5 to $14 (in New York)!  That’s a lot of cash (more than $5000 for NY) over a year, even if you only smoke one pack per day!

We have many methods available today, to help a person quit, such as:

  • Gradual reduction
  • Nicotine replacement therapy
  • Patches
  • Gum
  • Nasal sprays
  • Inhalers
  • Hypnosis
  • Acupuncture
  • PEMF therapy
  • Low level laser therapy

These methods have varying degrees of cost, time, and success!  And, most important of all, the person MUST want to quit! If someone really enjoys smoking, and they don’t have any medical symptoms (yet), they will not stop, no matter what method they use!

Tobacco is a nasty addiction that ONLY affects your health and life in a negative way.  Think of what you could do with all that extra cash you will have on hand after you stop!

With the huge downsides of the smoking habit, which include poor health, complaints from friends and spouse, dealing with the many “Non Smoking” areas being enforced now, and the cost, it would behoove any current smoker to find a quitting option that will work for them!

Weight Loss and MORE!

Let’s face it, we’ve been concerned and frustrated about our collective weight for DECADES!  Fad diets come and go, exercise plans, gyms and equipment proliferate.  However the weight, for the most part, has been difficult to shed at best!

Many people lose weight – temporarily, but usually gain it back and more!  So what’s going on?

Our bodies are like flex-fuel vehicles that can burn more than one type of fuel for energy.  We can use glucose, fat, or protein.  Protein is not the ideal choice as we can lose valuable muscle mass.  Glucose is not good either as it causes inflammation and WEIGHT GAIN.  So that leaves FAT!  The best choice is good fat!  Wait, but fat makes you fat, right? 

No, that’s a myth that we’ve been under, collectively, for decades!

Sugar is nasty stuff!  It should be called “Heroin-Lite” as it is very addictive and causes major damage to our bodies.  Sugar can cause insulin resistance, a stepping stone towards metabolic syndrome and diabetes (two very common chronic diseases). Insulin is a very important hormone in the body. It allows glucose (blood sugar) to enter cells from the bloodstream and tells the cells to start burning glucose instead of fat!

Our current diets contain a very large percentage of sugar (all carbohydrates are sugar). The image below shows the breakdown of sources of sugar:

e9051ff6865ca8f8655b69f029b02b2aOver the years our bodies have adapted to utilize sugar as the main fuel source, because of the huge intake of carbs and the minimized intake of fat.  But burning sugar over fat is like burning wood in our stoves and not gas.  The fat and the gas are much cleaner burning and fat contains more energy.

So what’s the answer?  Train our bodies to burn fat, not sugar for energy!  How do we do that?  It’s very simple, increase the fat percentage in our diet (good fats!) and reduce the carb intake.  Sort of like this:

ketogenic-dietIt’s called the Ketogenic Diet, and it’s gaining popularity among elite athletes and others (including me and my wife).  Ketones are formed in the blood when the body starts burning fat instead of glucose.  In order to make the ketogenic diet work we must become ketone adaptive.  This means we want to be in the”zone” as shown here:

optimal-ketosis-range-2We want to be just before Starvation Ketosis.  This would be the ideal range for blood ketones.  You can actually measure your blood ketone with a ketone meter:

ScreenShot2012-10-02at124247PMWe use the “Precision Xtra” available on Amazon for about $25.  It can be easy for some to reach this state, and very difficult for others, partly depending on their current diet (sugar is very addictive). You should reduce your carb intake to ~50 grams or less per day.  That’s the hard part.  However you can have fat, such as organic butter, MCT oil, coconut oil, full fat organic (or grass fed) dairy, bone broth (organic chicken or grass fed beef), and grass fed beef, so you may not miss the carbs!

Incorporate a moderate exercise program, and to enhance the process do some form of fasting.  We have so far opted for what they call intermittent fasting where after eating dinner at 7pm-ish we don’t eat until lunch the next day, about 1:00pm.  This gives us about a 16 hour fasting period each day, and we re not hungry!

The benefits o following a ketogenic diet are numerous:

So following a ketogenic diet has many plus factors, more energy, reduced weight, and improved health!  So why not give it a try?!  Let us know how you make out!

MOLD Disease!

Mold

We’ve all seen mold, on fruits, vegetables and other foods.  Many have seen mold on the walls of buildings, both inside and out.  We have all heard about penicillin, and what it really is – mold.  So it’s no wonder that very few of us feel that mold is a danger to our health!  But it is!

Mold disease is becoming a major problem for us ALL.  The problem is most doctors do not recognize it as the source for many of our symptoms, and thus do not treat it correctly!

Most all chronic disease is caused by the body being affected by a persistent source of aggravation.  And, if you do not remove the source of the aggravation, you will likely never get well!  It’s as if you were barefoot standing on a few tacks, no amount of aspirin will relieve the pain!  You get no relief until you remove the tacks!

Each of us is different genetically, so that complicates the issue for doctors as we all don’t get sick when exposed to mold.  It is not clear that persistent mold is the “tack”!

Have you lived or worked in a moldy environment?  You may not have known, because many times it is hidden behind the walls.  Usually caused by water damage of some sort, the sheet rock used in almost all construction is a wonderful place for mold to grow.

The mold produces what are called “mycotoxins” which are toxic chemicals that have negative affects on our bodies, mainly on our nerves (which affects all systems of the body) , hence the vast variety of symptoms!  Testing nerves can be complicated, but the is a simple test to check the optic nerve.  It is called the VCS test (Visual Contrast Test), and we utilize it in our offices with all our clients.  It not only shows the evidence of mold exposure, but it easily shows the improvements gained while following a regimen.

We can be exposed to mold via our environment, where we live and work, and also what we eat!  Peanuts and corn are especially susceptible to mold and can be a source!

Now, I doubt anyone would consume the corn shown above, but the problem lies where we don’t see the actual ingredients, as in processed foods! Corn is a HUGE ingredient in foods, in many forms.  And we can’t rely on the manufacture’s ethics to “exempt”  certain ingredients.  After all, that affects their bottom line!  And we can’t rely on government agencies to check all processing, all the time!

There is a new documentary out now called “Moldy” that I recommend everyone view.  And if you live or work where mold is present, or have any of the above symptoms, please seek help from a practitioner familiar with mold issues!
