Let’s face it, we’ve been concerned and frustrated about our collective weight for DECADES!  Fad diets come and go, exercise plans, gyms and equipment proliferate.  However the weight, for the most part, has been difficult to shed at best!

Many people lose weight – temporarily, but usually gain it back and more!  So what’s going on?

Our bodies are like flex-fuel vehicles that can burn more than one type of fuel for energy.  We can use glucose, fat, or protein.  Protein is not the ideal choice as we can lose valuable muscle mass.  Glucose is not good either as it causes inflammation and WEIGHT GAIN.  So that leaves FAT!  The best choice is good fat!  Wait, but fat makes you fat, right? 

No, that’s a myth that we’ve been under, collectively, for decades!

Sugar is nasty stuff!  It should be called “Heroin-Lite” as it is very addictive and causes major damage to our bodies.  Sugar can cause insulin resistance, a stepping stone towards metabolic syndrome and diabetes (two very common chronic diseases). Insulin is a very important hormone in the body. It allows glucose (blood sugar) to enter cells from the bloodstream and tells the cells to start burning glucose instead of fat!

Our current diets contain a very large percentage of sugar (all carbohydrates are sugar). The image below shows the breakdown of sources of sugar:

e9051ff6865ca8f8655b69f029b02b2aOver the years our bodies have adapted to utilize sugar as the main fuel source, because of the huge intake of carbs and the minimized intake of fat.  But burning sugar over fat is like burning wood in our stoves and not gas.  The fat and the gas are much cleaner burning and fat contains more energy.

So what’s the answer?  Train our bodies to burn fat, not sugar for energy!  How do we do that?  It’s very simple, increase the fat percentage in our diet (good fats!) and reduce the carb intake.  Sort of like this:

ketogenic-dietIt’s called the Ketogenic Diet, and it’s gaining popularity among elite athletes and others (including me and my wife).  Ketones are formed in the blood when the body starts burning fat instead of glucose.  In order to make the ketogenic diet work we must become ketone adaptive.  This means we want to be in the”zone” as shown here:

optimal-ketosis-range-2We want to be just before Starvation Ketosis.  This would be the ideal range for blood ketones.  You can actually measure your blood ketone with a ketone meter:

ScreenShot2012-10-02at124247PMWe use the “Precision Xtra” available on Amazon for about $25.  It can be easy for some to reach this state, and very difficult for others, partly depending on their current diet (sugar is very addictive). You should reduce your carb intake to ~50 grams or less per day.  That’s the hard part.  However you can have fat, such as organic butter, MCT oil, coconut oil, full fat organic (or grass fed) dairy, bone broth (organic chicken or grass fed beef), and grass fed beef, so you may not miss the carbs!

Incorporate a moderate exercise program, and to enhance the process do some form of fasting.  We have so far opted for what they call intermittent fasting where after eating dinner at 7pm-ish we don’t eat until lunch the next day, about 1:00pm.  This gives us about a 16 hour fasting period each day, and we re not hungry!

An Operating Manual for the Human?

MAN bookThese days everything comes with a operating manual that explains how to use the item, how to care for it, and who to call if you are experiencing a problem with it.  But alas, humans are not provided with such a manual!  So, what to do?

Well, short of writing your own manual, we just have to learn how our bodies speak to us, and what it is saying.  You see, better than a manual that you must actually read, the human body gives us signs when maintenance is required (kinda like some modern cars).  The trick is to understand what these message are and how to interpret them.

One obvious message is PAIN!  Well this serves it’s purpose, but wouldn’t it be nice to have known way ahead of time that the pain in your kidney was due to a stone?!  If you did, you could have done something about it and prevented the stone, and the PAIN!

One such method is to look at the tongue, it has a lot of information about what’s going on in the body,

All these parts of the body can tell us what the body is dealing with, most without any symptoms.  They can also show us what genetic weakness we have so we know what to pay attention to BEFORE we develop symptoms!

The top 2 images are of the blood.  The top pic is normal, the next is a condition called rouleau, where the cells tack up like a roll of coins.  This makes it hard for the cells to get through the capillaries! There are MANY indications in the blood!

The fingernail picture shows a woman who only has “moons” on her thumbnail.  You should have them on all fingers, except for the pinkies.  This indicates a circulatory issue in the extremities.

The bottom of the feet will show fine lines that are not due to creases, and will indicate what organs are experiencing difficulties. It can show the presence of parasites as well.

The eye is also a wealth of info.  The iris shows information (spots and shapes) regarding the genetic tendencies as well as issues due to stress.  The sclera (whites of the eye) express their info in the red lines.  Where they are located and how they are shaped tell us things that are currently going on.

An indication in one part may not show much,  however if multiple areas point to the same issue, you can almost be sure that  something should be done to mitigate it!

So, we can see that the body gives us a wealth of information regarding it’s status, that we can “read” and act on to give us the best health possible. These are some of the procedures that we use at our wellness center, to get people back on track to regaining heir health.  And we accomplish this without pharmaceuticals!

70,000!!  Added to FOOD?!  Why would real food  need any additives?  This is definitely a problem, A BIG PROBLEM!

The food industry, like so many others, is totally out of control!  It’s all about the bottom line ($).  Why do they add these ingredients?  Well, they will usually say it’s a preservative, to prevent spoiling and make the product last longer (FOREVER) on the shelves.  But they pay NO ATTENTION to what affect these toxic chemicals have on the human body!  And they usually camouflage the real names of these ingredients, because they don’t want to scare the public and reduce their $ales!

Here is a brief list of some of the more popular ingredients and what they are sourced from:

Toxic Agent Hit List

Adrenaline – Adrenal glands of hogs, cattle and sheep. Common in medicine.

Albumin – Made from blood, eggs, cow’s milk or vegetables. Often used to add texture or to thicken food — baked goods, cakes, cookies, pastries, candies and cosmetics (also in vaccines).

Ambergris – Whale intestines, synthetic or vegetable. Check perfumes for this.

Amylase – Fungal, bacterial, animal (pig).

Carmine (Cochineal or Carminic Acid) – Red coloring made from insects (e.g.: female beetles). Very common in candies, frozen pops, ice cream, fruit fillings, yogurt, pudding and bottled juices.

Clarifying Agent – Animal-based (egg, gelatin, fish bladder). Used to make liquids clear.

Dextrose – (GMO corn sugar) Animal bones may be used to filter it.

Diglyceride – Animal (cow or hog), vegetable. Baked goods, peanut butter, chewing gum, whipped topping, sweets, drinks, ice creams and shortening.

Dough Conditioner – Glyceryl monostearate, potassium bromate, locust (carob) bean gum, monocalcium sulfate, benzoyl peroxide and calcium sulfate. Watch out for azodicarbonamide and anti-foaming agents also.

Emulsifier – Animal (cow, hog, eggs, milk), vegetable, synthetic. In most processed foods. Lecithin, mono- and diglycerides, calcium stearoyl, polysorbate and monostearate.

Folic Acid (Pteroylglutamic Acid, Folacin) – Usually synthetic or fungal.

Fat – Animal (cow or hog, tallow and lard).

Flavor enhancer – Animal (meat or fish), vegetable. Monosodium glutamate, disodium guanylate, disodium inosiante and soy sauce (90% of soy is GMO).

Lipase – Enzyme from the tongue and stomach of animals (like hogs and cows), fungal. Common in cheese, ice cream and margarine.

Modified Starch – Corn that has been altered in laboratories to contain pesticide. All GMO corn is cancer-causing.

MSG – Monosodium glutamate: Concentrated irradiated salt. Watch out for maltodextrin, autolyzed yeast extract and hydrolized soy protein, all food criminal “cousins” of MSG.

Of course, never consume aspartame, sucralose or sorbitol, as these are synthetic sweeteners and concocted in a laboratory. It’s time to “about face” this onslaught of bad health that really comes from bad choices. Don’t spend another dollar on the food agents that breed cellular disease. Be the smartest shopper you know!

By now everyone knows that SUGAR is bad for you.  Well, maybe not everyone!  You see, the majority of the population has been under the spell of the propaganda being spewed forth about how sugar is really not that bad.  “It’s Natural”! “Got a problem with artificial sweeteners?  We use pure natural sugar in our soft drinks!”  Different poisons , same affect – POOR HEALTH!

If you read my post on CELLULAR INFLAMMATION you learned that there are three main things that cause it, toxins, bad fats and sugar.  Cellular inflammation (inflammation of the cell’s membrane) basically causes the cell not to function correctly and eventually die.

The inflamed membrane affects the cell’s ability to get rid of waste, absorb nutrients, and it’s receptors become blunted and non-functional, ultimately causing cell death.  Depending on which cells are affected, determines what disease you doctor will diagnose!  (That’s the reason the above charts seem to have unrelated diseases, but they all are affected by cells dying off).

An article written by Brad Chase in today’s NaturalNews.com explained a good three step process to break a sugar addiction!  First you make sure all your fruits a veggies are ORGANIC.  This produce tastes better, has a higher nutritional content, and contains slower-breaking-down complex carbs.  This is a key factor.

Secondly, if you consume pastries and cookies, you can substitute a whole grain bread and raw honey.  This is not the healthiest option, but it can help break the habit of the simple sugars in baked goods!  Again these are steps taken to break the addiction to sugar.

And thirdly if you are craving crunchy snacks use raw nuts and trail mixes as a substitute for chips, pretzels etc.  Nuts are a great source of nutrients, just make sure they are raw and organic.  If you want to “kick it up a notch”, soak the nuts and them dehydrate them.  This increases their digestibility and actually makes certain nuts taste better!  You can do a search for the simple process of doing this.

Before long, your “taste” for sugar will actually disappear, or be severely curtailed.  When I was a young man (about 100 years ago) I would put multiple (3 to 4) teaspoons of sugar in my coffee, now I drink it black!

You will also see many of your chronic symptoms disappear, and you will not get the annual bout with the flu!

And then you can take it further to other aspects of your environment, and deal with toxins and bad fats!

I’m on my third career in this life (holistic practitioner), and my last career played a major role in my decision to begin this one.  You see I was a Personal Chef for about ten years!  It was really a lot of fun!  I prepared meals for people’s evening dinners, did private dinner parties, cooking classes, cooking demos, even team-building exercises for corporations – anything with food.

I cooked for any type of diet including Macrobiotic, Vegan, and the Standard American Diet (SAD).  I even had a lot of clients that said “I don’t care, as long as it tastes good!”  The last one got me thinking!  Does food affect health?

YES!  A million times YES!  We were designed to get what our bodies need to survive, from our environment and FOOD.  Unfortunately the processed, genetically modified, toxin laden stuff they are selling to us shouldn’t even be called food!  It’s just a bunch of chemicals with trace amounts of food that have been processed to death!  Just pick up a box at the supermarket and start reading.

It’s really sad, and very dangerous to our health, but few make the connection between what they eat, and the health problems that they are suffering from.

We have many clients that come into our offices suffering from a variety of symptoms, and once we start doing our intake, we discover their poor eating habits.  When we explain that their diet has some major problems, some are confused.  They think if the food companies are “allowed” to sell it it must be good for us!  After all we have the FDA!  And unfortunately many of those clients actually refuse to change their food habits!

Our bodies’ integrity are being compromised by the food that we consume.  Our digestive systems are being destroyed, unable to break down the foreign ingredients.  You’ve heard the phrase “you are what you eat”, well that’s not really accurate anymore.  “You are what you digest!” is much more to the point!  If you can’t digest the food you eat, then you can’t get the nutrients form the food (even if they were there!).  And this results in chronic illness.

This crap that we are consuming (in place of real food) is at the root of ALL chronic diseases, including cancer, heart disease, diabetes, just to name a few of the major ones.  These are environmental diseases for the most part, not caused by the usual pathogens or genetics.  They are caused by inflammation,  actually cellular inflammation to be exact, and there are three main causes of cellular inflammation – bad fats, sugar, and toxins!  All of which we get from the “foods” we are eating!  There was an interesting article on NaturalNews this morning – “Eighty percent of the packaged foods on our grocers shelves are banned in other countries” you can get the full article at:

We need to educate the general population on the need to eat well!  So to improve your health, start eating real, God-made-food, not the man made crap.  And unless you grow and raise your own food with organic methods, you will definitely need some quality supplementation.  That will go a long way to eliminating those nasty symptoms!  Also you will start to normalize your weight!

Add in some exercise and a spiritual component, and before long you won’t need any medicine at all!

Ondamed – Wave Medicine!

Ondamed.  No it’s not slang describing when someone is taking medication!  It is actually a machine made in Germany for about 20 years, that uses PEMF (Pulsed Electromagnetic Field) therapy to treat the body!ondamed
