Most people are not aware of the importance of iodine to their health, and up to a few years ago that included myself. All I remember is that when I was a kid my mom used iodine on me when I had a cut or scrape, and it BURNED! 🙂
Now that I am a practitioner, I know the health effects and importance of using iodine as part of my daily food consumption and supplementation.
I learned much from listening to and reading Dr. David Brownstein he’s an obvious expert in the field of iodine and health. We can’t live without it, and it’s used by every cell of our bodies!
There are other halides such as fluoride and bromide that have no nutritional value and are common in many of our diets, that actually block the iodine receptors in our bodies! Fluoride is in the water, and bromine is used in flour for bread. Try to purchase unbromated flour and/or unbromated bread. So the general population is iodine deficient, due to the lack in our food.
Common symptoms of iodine deficiency include:
- Swelling of the front of the neck (goiter)
- Unexpected weight gain.
- Fatigue and weakness.
- Hair loss.
- Dry flaky skin.
- Feeling colder than usual.
- Changes in heart rate.
- Trouble learning and remembering.
- Problems during pregnancy.
- Heavy or irregular period.
The supplement that we use is Nascent Iodine which is the best form of iodine to supplement with.
